Measuring: An approximate measurement of your room will be required to provide an estimate cost for your flooring. However, once you have found a suitable flooring option within your budget based on your sizes, we would then recommend that you use our FREE measuring & estimating service to ensure accuracy and alleviate the risk of expensive mistakes.
Measuring your room should be straight forward, so please see below some simple measuring guides.
Before you start, you will need a metric tape measure, pen or pencil, paper and a calculator to hand.
Firstly draw a rough plan of the room showing all walls, now measure from the skirting board the longest part of the room, (Length) and then the widest point of the room (Width).
Remember to measure into bay windows and door frames, as the flooring should end directly under the door. Add on an extra 5cm, to each measurement, just in case the walls run out and it also allows for cutting in when fitted, then write these measurements on the plan.
For Wood floors, you will need to calculate the amount required based on the fact wood is sold in packs. You will be advised of how many square metres each pack will cover, so simply take the length of the room and multiply this by the width of the room to give you the total area in square metres. See example below.
Underlay: If you are investing in a quality carpet, then a good quality underlay is very important as it will prolong the life of the carpet. Use of an underlay will absorb energy applied when walking on the carpet, and also acts as a cushion to protect the carpet from damage resulting from the floor surface.
Gripper Rods & Door Bars: Securely holding the carpet in place and keeps it flat around the perimeter of the room, except across doorways.
Door Bars: These bridge the gap between two floor coverings in different rooms, available to match the colour of your door furniture in Aluminium or Brass.
Scotia Beading or Skirting (smooth flooring only): Provides an impeccable finish between the floor & wall.
Pipe Roses (smooth flooring only): Provides a superb finish around radiator pipes.
Fitting: Our fully guaranteed fitting service takes away the stress to guarantee your complete satisfaction on the finished work of your purchase.
Maintenance: Cleaning items are available at the time of purchase to ensure you maintain your carpet as the manufacturer recommends. It is vital that you use the correct cleaning agents to avoid damage to your beautiful new carpet.
*Please note these are helpful tips and should not be confused as an installation guide. If in doubt we can offer professional help and advice, as well as our measuring and fitting services. Another thing to consider is the total thickness of new flooring being installed. Is it higher than what is there at present? If it is then you need to check the clearance under any doors as these may need to be trimmed to ensure they open and close properly with new flooring.
